I study how diversity and species distributions change across temporal and spatial scales and how human impacts shaped these patterns. I am largely focused on the causes of Quaternary extinction in birds and the phylogenetic relationships among lost and living species. I use fossils, genomic data, and ecological data in my research. I am also working on projects focused on the impacts of trafficking/trade in birds to demonstrate that various taxa deserve conservation attention and legal protections. My primary focus is on birds, but I am also working on projects focused on other taxa.
I am a Senior Forensic Ornithologist at the USFWS National Forensic Lab.
I was research assistant professor at the University of Nevada, Reno in the Allen Lab from September 2021 – May 2023.
